The new-look Ochsner fitness center at Federal City in Algiers is not far from completion.
Algiers Development District Executive Director Kathy Lynn Honaker said the target date for the grand opening is between April 28 and May 15.
“It will be state-of-the-art,” Honaker said at a March 25 committee meeting. “We’re very excited about that.”
The expansion will add 9,400 square feet to the 240,900 square foot facility. Among the additions are a physical therapy unit, a café and more space for new workout machines. An outdoor pool will offer four lap lanes, a water aerobics area and a children’s splash area.
The total cost of the project is $2.5 million and was funded through by the Algiers Development District through state capital outlay funds. The architect for the fitness center is Chenevert Architects, and the contractor is CDW Services. The contractor for the pool is Rotolo Consultants. The start date for the project was in December 2014.
Ochsner was selected to run the fitness center in April 2015 after the YMCA of Greater New Orleans decided it no longer wanted to operate the facility. It originally opened in 2012.
